Is wrestling worth it?
Here's a few reasons we are passionate about growing Womens wrestling in our area :
Read testimonials from our wrestlers about their experiences with our team.
UFC Strawweight Champion
Becky was a pioneer and groundbreaker for women’s wrestling, so it’s no surprise to me that she is continuing to break barriers with one of the 1st and only all female wrestling gyms in the country.
Her leadership as team captain at Menlo College brought us together as a team and created a path for us to follow in a sport where there was none at the time. Her passion for women’s wrestling brought her back following her graduation from Menlo College as assistant coach.
It is my firm belief that her commitment and leadership to our program is a large part of what led all 6 of the female wrestlers in my class to graduate college, whereas previously only 2 total in the programs history, including herself, had. I have personally learned so much from Becky’s example over the years on how to be strong, perseverance, communication, the power of education, hard work, and so much more. It was this support and leadership from Becky that helped me on my own journey of breaking barriers as the 1st ever UFC and Invicta FC straw weight champion of the world.
Having a strong female leader like Becky, and a female only space where girls and women can learn, grow, and thrive is a dream come true for her, and a place that can open the doors for young females to gain the strength, confidence, and mindset to accomplish the dreams of their own.
Community Philanthropist and Wrestling Mom
I couldn’t be more excited to share my review for Becky’s new girls only wrestling academy, Grit n Grace. Becky brings an impressive background to the mat as a former college wrestler with years of experience, but what truly sets her apart is her heart. Her passion for wrestling is undeniable, but it’s her commitment to our youth and our community that really shines through.
While some people start businesses chasing fame or fortune, I truly believe she opened this academy for a much greater purpose: to grow girls wrestling and create a safe, empowering space for young women in our community. One of the things I love most about her academy is the strong emphasis on mindset, teaching these girls to believe in themselves, build confidence, and carry that strength both on and off the mat.
This isn’t just about wrestling. These girls will also learn valuable self defense skills and leave each class a little stronger, a little more confident, and a lot more empowered. Watsonville is lucky to have this academy and even luckier to have Becky leading it.
National Champion
As a female wrestler, I've always felt respected and supported on this team. The coaches have helped me develop my own style and achieve results I never thought possible.
Staff
Founder & Head Coach, Grit and Grace Academy
Becky Clark is a Watsonville native, trailblazer, and lifelong wrestler whose career has been defined by breaking barriers and building opportunity. She made history as the first girl to wrestle at Watsonville High School, where she placed second at the California Girls State Wrestling Championships in 2002—paving the way for future generations of female athletes.
Her journey continued at Menlo College, where she became first woman to graduate as a four year wrestler, earning Collegiate All-American honors in both 2005 and 2006. Becky’s accomplishments on the mat reflect her relentless drive, resilience, and belief that wrestling is not just a sport—but a life-changing platform for growth and empowerment.
In 2024, Becky once again made local history by becoming the first female athletic director at Watsonville High School, a full-circle moment in the town where her journey began.
Now, as the founder and head coach of Grit and Grace Academy, she brings her experience, passion, and leadership to a new generation of girls and women. Through wrestling and fitness, Becky helps young athletes and women build confidence, mental toughness, and a powerful sense of purpose.
Her mission is simple and strong. To help every girl rise with grit, lead with grace, and fight for the life she believes in.
